Born in New York City. Art director who entered French film in 1931 with Jean Renoir's ON PURGE BÉBÉ as a set decorator and LA CHIENNE as an art director. He was production designer for two other French productions, FANNY and FANTÔMAS (both 1932). Coming back to the US, he worked uncredited on THE MERRY WIDOW (1934) and was associate art director for a number of films at MGM from 1935 to 1942; e.g., THREE LIVE GHOSTS (1935), SUZY (1936), RICH MAN, POOR GIRL (1938), CALLING DR. KILDARE (1939), ANDY HARDY MEETS DEBUTANTE (1940), BORN TO SING and FOR ME AND MY GAL (both 1942). He also was credited as an art director for a few minor studio releases until the outbreak of WW II. After the war, his notable art director credits (in collaboration) include HIGH BARBAREE (1947), ROGUES' REGIMENT (1948), BLACK HAND and MYSTERY STREET (both 1950), THE GREAT CARUSO (1951), LOVELY TO LOOK AT (1952), THE STORY OF THREE LOVES (1953), STRANGE LADY IN TOWN (1955), A THUNDER OF DRUMS (1961) and 7 FACES OF DR. LAO (1964). The made-for-TV movie "Then Came Bronson" (1969) is his last credit.
