Mystery Street (1950) Born in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from NYU, he started his film career as a reader and story editor. From 1933, he wrote many screenplays, alone or in collaboration, specializing in comedy and light fare, like Howard Hawks's I WAS A MALE WAR BRIDE (1949). But he also wrote a number of incisive dramas. Several of his plays reached Broadway, notably A Majority of One (1959), which was adapted for the screen in 1961. His Hollywood credits include the screenplays for THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE (1940), THE BIG STREET (1942), SILK STOCKINGS (1957) and GYPSY (1962).
