Todd-AO

Developed by Mike Todd with the American Optical Company in the early 50's TODD-AO ran at 30 fps and was designed to be a single camera competitor to 3-strip Cinerama. It premiered in 1955 with OKLAHOMA!, and won 4 Academy Awards. The following year, AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS won 8 Oscars, including Best Picture.

70mm camera negative is actually 65mm wide. The extra 5mm on the print allows space for 6 sound tracks. Each frame is 5 perfs high, has 2.5 times the image area of an anamorphic frame, and 3 times the area of Academy aperture.
