Tom Tully

Born in Durango, CO. A veteran of the US Navy, and of radio and the legitimate stage, he played character parts in many Hollywood films, typically on the tough-but-nice side. His first credited screen role was in Raoul Walsh's NORTHERN PURSUIT (1943) at Warner Bros. Other notable screen credits include DESTINATION TOKYO (also 1943), SECRET COMMAND (1944), THE UNSEEN (1945), THE VIRGINIAN (1946), LADY OF THE LAKE (1947), BLOOD ON THE MOON (1948), WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS (1950), BRANDED (1951), THE JAZZ SINGER and THE MOON IS BLUE (both 1953), LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME (1955), TEN NORTH FREDERICK (1958), THE WACKIEST SHIP IN THE ARMY (1960), THE CARPETBAGGERS (1964), COOGAN'S BLUFF (1968) and his last feature film, CHARLEY VARRICK (1973). He was nominated for an Oscar® as best supporting actor for his performance as the out-going captain of the Caine in THE CAINE MUTINY (1954).

Tully made frequent appearances on television from 1952 until 1973, most notably as co-star of the long-running TV series "San Francisco Beat" (1954-1959).
