Born in Monymusk, Scotland. Debuted in British films in HUNTED (1952, a.k.a. THE STRANGER IN BETWEEN). Winner of a special Oscar® for his performance in the 1953 British film THE KIDNAPPERS (released in the US in 1954 as THE LITTLE KIDNAPPERS), he later appeared in only a handful of films: MOONFLEET (1955), THE SPANISH GARDENER (1956) and THE WEAPON (1957). Following an appearance in an episode of "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1957), his career ended as quickly as it began. After abandoning the limelight, Whiteley became a respected art historian at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England.  Special Award 1954: "For his outstanding juvenile performance in THE LITTLE KIDNAPPERS." Winner presented Miniature Statuette. 1 Special Award
