(1938 - 1981)
Biography from Baseline's Encyclopedia of Film

Born Natasha Gurdin in San Francisco, CA. Heart-tugging child actress in films such as TOMORROW IS FOREVER (1946), MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET (1947) and THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR (1947) who made an effective transition to teenage roles in the mid-1950s. Although somewhat limited in range, Wood gave sympathetic performances as neurotic young women in REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE (1955), MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR (1958) and SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS (1961) and starred (her singing voice was dubbed) in the musical films WEST SIDE STORY (1961) and GYPSY (1962).

Wood played a succession of contemporary, modish heroines in the 60s (LOVE WITH THE PROPER STRANGER, 1963, SEX AND THE SINGLE GIRL, 1964, BOB & CAROL & TED & ALICE, 1969), but made only intermittent appearances in the 70s; she played herself in WILLIE AND PHIL (1980) but was drowned in a mysterious incident on her own yacht off Catalina Island toward the end of the filming of BRAINSTORM (released 1983). Wood was the daughter of architect and set designer Nicholas Gurdin and ballet dancer Maria Gurdin and the sister of actress Lana Wood. She was married to actor Robert Wagner (from 1957 to 1963), British producer Richard Gregson (from 1969) and to Wagner for the second time from 1972. During their second marriage, Wagner adopted Wood's daughter by Gregson, actress Natasha Wagner.
