Lee Zavitz

Born in Mount Vernon, VA. Special effects and pyrotechnician for over 35 years who entered American film doing explosives for John Ford's SEAS BENEATH (1931, uncredited) at Fox. Zavitz's other notable special effects credits include THE HURRICANE (1937), GONE WITH THE WIND (1939, fire effects - uncredited), THAT HAMILTON WOMAN (1941), CAPTAIN KIDD (1945), DESTINATION MOON (1950), AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS (1956), FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON (1958), ON THE BEACH (1959), THE ALAMO (1960), SODOM AND GOMORRAH (1962), THE PINK PANTHER and THE TRAIN (both 1964), VIVA MARIA! (1965), LA BATAILLE DE SAN SEBASTIAN (1968, a.k.a. "Guns for San Sabastian"), and his last film CASTLE KEEP (1969).
