Born in Compiègne, Oise, France. Favorite script and dialogue writer of several directors of the French New Wave, particularly of Philippe de Broca. Noted for his black humor and robust style, Boulanger has made occasional screen appearances as an actor, usually in heavy roles, in such films as A BOUT DE SOUFFLE / BREATHLESS and TIREZ SUR LE PIANISTE / SHOOT THE PIANO PLAYER (both 1960), and LA MARIÉE ETAIT EN NOIR / THE BRIDE WORE BLACK (1968).
