Graduated from Oregon State University in 1936. Began working for Disney in 1954 and composed music for many features and television series, becoming music director for Walt Disney Productions for more than 25 years. Wrote the "Ballad of Davey Crockett" and music for the "Mickey Mouse Club" television show. Other notable (non-nominated) feature film credits include NOAH'S ARK, 1959; THE ABSENT-MINDED PROFESSOR, 1961; SON OF FLUBBER, 1963; THE JUNGLE BOOK, 1967; THE LOVE BUG, 1968; THE ARISTOCATS, 1970; and HERBIE RIDES AGAIN, 1974.
