Born in Colombière, France. Highly accomplished European scenarist who began his career writing novelizations of Jacques Tati movies, and then turning out several screenplays for Pierre Etaix. Although best known for his many collaborations with Luis Buñuel, Carrière is adept at a variety of genres and excels at literary adaptations. He has worked with Jacques Deray, England's Peter Brook, Germany's Volker Schlöndorff and Poland's Andrzej Wajda, among others.
