Born Michael Gregson in Poona, India. The son of a British serviceman, he came to England at three, went to Canada at 10, then returned to England, where he made his stage debut in repertory in 1949. In the same year he began playing extra parts in films and landed his first speaking role in 1954. His roles gradually increased in importance. He played leads in many films of the late 1950s and early 60s, then settled for character roles. He has also acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company in London and New York. Notable film acting credits include THE ANGRY SILENCE, 1960; MODESTY BLAISE, 1966; STAR!, 1968; and THE ROYAL HUNT OF THE SUN, 1969. He continues to appear in films and on television in series and made-for-TV movies.
His brother is writer/producer Richard Gregson.
