Born Morton Tecosky in Philadelphia, PA. On Broadway as an actor from 1942 and a director from 1950, he ventured twice into films to direct the screen versions of plays he had turned into hits on the stage (AUNTIE MAME, 1958, and THE MUSIC MAN, 1962), then directed one more film (ISLAND OF LOVE, 1963) before returning to Broadway. Author of Morton Da Costa's Book of Needlepoint.
