Born Giovanna Cecchi in Rome, Italy, daughter of screenwriter Emilio Cecchi. She rewrote (with Ennio Flaiano) the screenplay for ROMAN HOLIDAY (1953), that eventually won the Academy Award in 1954. Unfortunately the screenplay was not credited to them. She has worked with nearly every major postwar Italian director (most notably with Visconti, Antonioni, and De Sica); she usually writes in collaboration and has nearly 100 produced screenplays to her credit.
