Born János Halász in Budapest, Austria-Hungary (now Hungary). Started out in British cartoons in 1938 with his wife and collaborator, Joy Batchelor. Their 1954 adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm became an animated film classic. They came to the US, and their first cartoon was AUTOMANIA 2000 (1963) for Pathé Contemporary Films. It was nominated for an Oscar®. He and Batchelor directed the animated series "The Lone Ranger" (1966-1969), "Tomfoolery" (1970), "The Jackson 5ive" (1971), "The Osmonds" and "The Osmond Brothers" (both 1972), "The Addams Family" (1973-1975) and "The Count of Monte Cristo" (1973). His last project was the TV series "Masters of Animation" (1986). He died in London, England.
