Born in Toledo, OH; educated at the University of Toledo (1934). Electrical engineer whose first job was with Electic Autolite, testing automobile generators on a production line. The following year, he began working for -- and in 1956 became the president of -- the Strong Electric Company, which manufactured projection lighting equipment for motion picture theaters. In 1966, Hatch received a technical Academy Award for the development of an air blown arc for projection. As an inventor, he held 13 patents relating to various types of lighting technology. -- Toledo Blade
