George Kennedy
(1925 -     )
Biography from various sources

Born in New York City. Burly character actor, equally effective as a hulking heavy or a reassuring, reliable good guy; perhaps at his best as Paul Newman's fellow convict in COOL HAND LUKE (1967). The son of show-biz parents, Kennedy first appeared on stage at age two and later moved into radio. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and went on to serve 16 years, both in combat, and in his later years, as an Armed Forces Radio and Television officer. One of his first roles in film was that of a slave in SPARTACUS (1960). When the crowd was asked for Spartacus, he was the last close-up of a slave yelling "I am Spartacus!" He has appeared in over 170 feature films and TV movies and series.
