Wolf Koenig
(1927 -     )
Biography and photo from the NFB Canada

Born in Dresden, Germany, Koenig emigrated with his family to Galt, Ontario, in 1936. After an NFB crew filmed at his farm, he left to join the NFB in 1946. Inspired by Cartier-Bresson, Koenig helped create the National Film Board of Canada's cinéma vérité tradition with the concept that became the Candid Eye series. A brilliant animator, director and cinematographer and one of the key creative forces (with Kroitor) of Unit B, the quiet Koenig is one of the movement's philosopher-filmmakers. He has produced over 175 short films, both animated and live-action, for the NFB. He was Executive Producer of English animation 1962-67.

Koenig has retired to Westport, Ontario, to make furniture.
