Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Directed the Oscar®-nominated documentary short BEYOND SILENCE (1960) and the French short film LA BLESSURE (also 1960). He won the Academy Award for his 1966 documentary short A YEAR TOWARD TOMORROW. He followed this by directing WHILE I RUN THIS RACE, which received an Oscar nomination for 1967. His last recorded credit is for producing and directing "Mom, the Wolfman and Me" for television in 1980.
