Born in New York City. Started in Hollywood with BLACK BEAUTY (1946). Notable art direction credits include THE MAGNIFICENT YANKEE (1950), THE TENDER TRAP and IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER (both 1955), FORBIDDEN PLANET (1956), MY GEISHA (1962), PAPA'S DELICATE CONDITION (1963), ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS (1964), THE OSCAR (1966), CHE! (1969), M*A*S*H (1970) and BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1970).
