Entered British films as an uncredited draughtsman for THE WAY TO THE STARS (1945). Then began working as an assistant art director (THE CHILTERN HUNDREDS, 1949). Moved up to art director and eventually production designer: THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, 1957; THE ENTERTAINER (ass't a.d.) and SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING (production designer), both 1960; A TASTE OF HONEY (ass't a.d., 1961); THE LONELINESS OF THE LONG DISTANCE RUNNER and THE QUARE FELLOW, 1962 (production designer); GIRL WITH GREEN EYES, 1964; THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD, 1965; MARAT/SADE, 1967; MACHO CALLAHAN (production designer), 1970; O LUCKY MAN! (ass't a.d., 1973); and BRANNIGAN, 1975 (production designer).
