Born in London, England. Wholesome child actress whose highly praised debut in TIGER BAY (1959) landed her a five-year contract with Walt Disney, where she played a succession of sweet, ingratiating innocents. Mills's nude appearance in THE FAMILY WAY (1966), and her relationship with the film's director, Roy Boulting (b. 1913), who was three decades her senior put her career on a decidely different and somewhat less successful path. She and Boulting were married in 1971 and divorced in 1976. Their son, Crispian Mills (b. 1973), was lead singer of Kula Shaker, whose second single went to #2 on the UK charts. He is now part of The Jeevas.

FORBUSH AND THE PENGUINS (both 1971), WHAT CHANGED CHARLEY FARTHING and DEADLY STRANGERS (both 1974), THE KINGFISHER CAPER (1975), APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH (1988), AFTER MIDNIGHT (1990), 2BPERFECTLYHONEST (2004), and STRICKEN (2005). From the 1980s, she appeared frequently on television in both series and made-for-TV movies. Mills is the daughter of playwright Mary Hayley Bell (1911-2005) and actor Sir John Mills (1908-2005), and sister of actress Juliet Mills (b. 1941). In 1963, Hayley Mills was quoted as saying: "Acting is just a natural thing in my family. Other boys and girls go into the family business. So do we."
