Born Rosita Dolores Alverio in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Fiery Latin performer who made her Hollywood debut in 1945 at the age of 14 and garnered acclaim for her performance in WEST SIDE STORY (1961). Other notable film credits include SO YOUNG, SO BAD, THE TOAST OF NEW ORLEANS and PAGAN LOVE SONG (all 1950), THE RING and SINGIN' IN THE RAIN (both 1952), FORT VENGEANCE, LATIN LOVERS and EL ALAMÉIN (all 1953), JIVARO and GARDEN OF EVIL (both 1954), UNTAMED and SEVEN CITIES OF GOLD (both 1955), THE KING AND I (1956), THE DEERSLAYER (1957), SUMMER AND SMOKE (1961), MARLOWE (1969), CARNAL KNOWLEDGE (1971), THE RITZ (1976), THE FOUR SEASONS (1981), AGE ISN'T EVERYTHING (1991), ITALIAN MOVIE (1993), I LIKE IT LIKE THAT (1994), ANGUS (1995), SLUMS OF BEVERLY HILLS (1998), CARLO'S WAKE (1999), BLUE MOON (2000), PIÑERO (2001), CASA DE LOS BABYS (2003), KING OF THE CORNER (2004), PLAY IT BY EAR (2006), and 4CHOSEN (2008).
