Born in Vienna, Austria. Renowned costume designer for film, theater, TV and opera whose baggy outfits for Diane Keaton in ANNIE HALL (1977) first brought her to widespread public attention. Morley's first Broadway production was 1951's Billy Budd. She first designed costumes for film with NEVER LOVE A STRANGER (1958). It was followed by these notable (non-nominated) design credits: THE HUSTLER (1961), LILITH (1964), A THOUSAND CLOWNS (1965), DIARY OF A MAD HOUSEWIFE (1970), THE HOT ROCK (1972), TAXI DRIVER (1976), THE FRONT (1976), ANNIE HALL (1977), THE BRINK'S JOB (1978), KRAMER VS. KRAMER (1979), ONE FROM THE HEART (1982), I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES, TOOTSIE and HAMMETT (all 1982), KEY EXCHANGE (1985), THE MONEY PIT (1986), HELLO AGAIN (1987), PARENTHOOD (1989), GHOST (1990) and THE PRINCE OF TIDES (1991), her last film.
Daughters Emily and Melissa Hacker are both directors; the latter was working on a documentary about her mother's WW II experiences at the time of Morley's death. It became MY KNEES WERE JUMPING: REMEMBERING THE KINDERTRANSPORTS (1998) and was narrated by Joanne Woodward.
