Norman Newell

Born in Plaistow, London, England. Composer-lyricist whose songs (most notably "More" and "Forget Domani") were used in films from 1949 until 1999. He entered the music business in the 1940s as a songwriter, following a short spell working at Upton Park bus depot. As head of A & R for EMI Records, he signed John Barry to the company's Parlophone label and gave him his first chance in the music business. After leaving EMI in the late 60s, he continued to produce show albums as a freelance.

Newell was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2004 New Year's Honours list. His many awards included a Grammy®, an Emmy®, a Golden Globe®, three Ivor Novello Awards, six BMI awards and an Oscar® nomination.
