Born in Cetinje, Montenegro, Yugoslavia. Fled Yugoslavia during WW II. Moved to France and became a compilation filmmaker who began his career working for the Cinémathèque Française; directed several programs for French TV in the 1950s. Rossif chronicled some of the most significant events of modern European history, including the Spanish Civil War (TO DIE IN MADRID, 1965, which earned him the Prix Jean Vigo), the Russian Revolution (REVOLUTION D'OCTOBRE, 1967, which incorporated footage from Vertov's MAN WITH A MOVIE CAMERA, 1929) and the rise and fall of German National Socialism (FROM NUREMBERG TO NUREMBERG). His later work included studies of Jacques Brel and Pablo Picasso.
