John L. Russell
Sometimes billed as Jack Russell, John Russell or John L. Russell Jr.

American cinematographer who started out as an uncredited camera assistant at Columbia on WHIRLPOOL (a.k.a. FORGOTTEN MAN) (1934). He became a camera operator in the mid-1940s and was cinematographer for these notable films: MACBETH (1948), PARK ROW and INVASION USA (both 1952), THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS and CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS (both 1953), HELL'S HALF ACRE and THE ATOMIC KID (both 1954), THE ETERNAL SEA and THE VANISHING AMERICAN (both 1955). In 1955 he worked on the "Alfred Hitcock Presents" TV series. Hitchcock used him for PSYCHO (1960) and "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" TV series (1962). He also shot the TV series "Stacatto" (1959), "Overland Trail" and "Thriller" (both 1960) and "McHales Navy" (1962). His last film was BACKTRACK! (1969) for Universal, which was a feature spun off from the then-current TV series, "The Virginian." Other film credits include INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN (1956), GIRLS TOWN (1959), THE CABINET OF CALIGARI (1962), BILLIE (1965), OUT OF SIGHT (1966), JIGSAW and NOW YOU SEE IT, NOW YOU DON'T (both 1968), and his last film, BACKTRACK! (1969).
