American documentary filmmaker and producer and director for feature films and television. Other notable (non-nominated) directing credits include IF IT'S TUESDAY, THIS MUST BE BELGIUM (1969), I LOVE MY WIFE (1970), WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (1971), ONE IS A LONELY NUMBER (1972), WATTSTAX (1973), UP FROM THE APE (1974), MEAN DOG BLUES (1978), THE WHITE LIONS (1981) and RUNNING ON THE SUN: THE BADWATER 135 (2000). He produced and/or directed several TV specials, series and movies, including "Time-Life Speicals: The March of Time" (1965-1966), "Sophia: A Self-Portrait" (1968) and "Sophia Loren: Her Own Story" (1980), "Welcome Back, Kotter" (1975-1979), "Life Goes to the Movies" (1976), "The Chisholms" (1980) and "Happy Anniversary 007: 25 Years of James Bond" (1987). His most recent projects include "The Poet's View" series of videos and "The Hobart Shakespeareans" (2005, PBS) with Ian McKellen and Michael York.
