Born in Warsaw, Poland. Tazieff was a leading French volcano expert and photographer. He wrote and produced the French documentary LES RENDEZ-VOUS DE DIABLE / VOLCANO (1958) and shot volcano sequences for the French and Italian co-production of HERCULE Á LA CONQUÊTE DE L'ANTLANTIDE / HERCULES AND THE CAPTIVE WOMEN (1961). He served in French Prime Minister Laurent Fabius' cabinet as secretary of state for the prevention of natural and technological disasters in 1984.
