Born in Springfield, MA. Started as a film editor at Paramount in 1947 (WILD HARVEST). Best known for his work with Alfred Hitchcock on films such as REAR WINDOW (1954), TO CATCH A THIEF (1955), THE WRONG MAN and THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (both1956), VERTIGO (1958), NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959), PSYCHO (1960), THE BIRDS (1963) and MARNIE (1964). Tomasini also contributed to films by directors like Billy Wilder (STALAG 17, 1953), George Pal (THE TIME MACHINE, 1960, and 7 FACES OF DR. LAO, 1964), John Huston (THE MISFITS, 1961) and J. Lee Thompson (CAPE FEAR, 1962); on ELEPHANT WALK (1954), he was faced with the peculiar challenge of matching long-shot footage of Vivien Leigh to close-ups of Elizabeth Taylor, after the former had withdrawn from the project.

Other notable film editing credits include THE TURNING POINT (1952), HOUDINI (1953), HEAR ME GOOD (1957), I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE (1958), WHO'S BEEN SLEEPING IN MY BED? (1963), and his last film, IN HARM'S WAY (1965).

Married to actress Mary Brian from 1947 until his death in 1964.
