Born in Alblasserdam, Netherlands. Dutch documentary filmmaker. His short film 'T SCHOT IS TE BOORD / SHOOT THE NETS (1951) won first prize for short films at the 1951 Cannes Film Festival. He wrote and directed PRIJS DE ZEE (1959), which won the Golden Berlin Bear Award for Best Short Film. His FAJA LOBBI / FIERY LOVE (1960) won the Golden Berlin Bear Award for Best Feature-Length Documentary. He produced PAN (1962), which was nominated for an Oscar®. And, he shot, produced and directed TOCCATA (1969), which was nominated for Best Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival and received a Technical Grand Prize Special Mention.  Nominated for Short Subjects (Live Action Subjects) 1962: PAN - Producer 1 nomination
