Formed Project Unlimited with Wah Chang and Tim Barr. Chang and Warren had both worked for George Pal doing "Puppetoons" in the 1940s. They teamed up to do effects for George Pal's feature of tom thumb in 1958. They later were the primary effects company for the original "Outer Limits" TV series. Among the artisans who worked for them was Jim Danforth.
Warren worked as special effects artist on KRONOS (1957), THE TIME MACHINE and DINOSAURUS! (both 1960), MASTER OF THE WORLD (1961), JACK THE GIANT KILLER (1962), THE LEGEND OF HILLBILLY JOHN and the TV series "Land of the Lost" (both 1974). Warren's visual effects credits include THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM (1962), THE POWER (1968), "The Man from Atlantis" (1977, TV series), DOLLMAN (1991), MY BOYFRIEND'S BACK (1993), TRUE LIES (1994), VAMPIRE IN BROOKLYN (1995), and his last film, THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS (1996). His son, Gene Warren Jr., is an Oscar®-winning visual effects supervisor in TV and feature films. Grandson Gene Warren III (b. 1963) also works in visual effects.
