Tobruk (1967) Son of special effects cameraman Howard A. Anderson (1890-1975). Anderson Jr. started out as a cinematographer for RIDERS OF THE PONY EXPRESS (1949). His visual effects filmography includes (photographic effects & opticals) PHANTOM FROM SPACE (1953), THE TIME MACHINE (1960), THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (1962), TOBRUK (1967), THE MAN WITHOUT A COUNTRY (1973), HARD TIMES (1975), A SMALL TOWN IN TEXAS (1976), TWILIGHT'S LAST GLEAMING (1977), A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH and SOUTHERN COMFORT (both 1981), ANNIE (1982), BODY SLAM (1987), THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS (1991), LOADED WEAPON 1 and WIDE SARGASSO SEA (both 1993), MAJOR LEAGUE II and DUMB & DUMBER (both 1994), JURY DUTY (1995), SOLO and D3: THE MIGHTY DUCKS (both 1996), LOVE JONES and CITY OF INDUSTRY (both 1997), and BASIC (2003).

Anderson's special photgraphic effects credits include KING DINOSAUR (1955), TARAS BULBA (1962), THE SEVEN MINUTES, ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES, THE MEPHISTO WALTZ and THE MARRIAGE OF A YOUNG STOCKBROKER (all 1971) and GRAY LADY DOWN (1978).

His father formed the Howard A. Anderson Company in North Hollywood, CA, in 1927. It continued to provide titles and opticals for television and feature motion pictures until it filed for bankrupcy in 2005. His son, Howard A. Anderson III, works as a cinematographer and visual effects supervisor.
