Born in New York City; educated at Stanford & Columbia School of Journalism. With Darryl F. Zanuck's son Richard, founded the successful Zanuck-Brown production company in 1972. They were partners for the next 16 years. Among their notable (non-nominated) productions were THE BLACK WINDMILL (1974), COCOON (1985), COCOON: THE RETURN (1988), DRIVING MISS DAISY (1989, as executive producer, Brown did not share in the Oscar® nomination), THE EIGER SANCTION (1975), JAWS 2 (1978), NEIGHBORS (1981), RICH IN LOVE (1992), SSSSSSS (1973), THE SUGARLAND EXPRESS (1974), TARGET (1985) and WILLIE DYNAMITE (1974). They teamed up again to produce DEEP IMPACT (1998). Brown continues to produce, executive produce and co-produce independently. Notable credits include THE PLAYER and A FEW GOOD MEN (both 1992), THE CEMETERY CLUB (1993), CANADIAN BACON (1995), THE SAINT and KISS THE GIRLS (both 1997), ANGELA'S ASHES (1999), CHOCOLAT (2000), ALONG CAME A SPIDER (2001), and PEACE LIKE A RIVER (2009).
