Bill (Wilmer) Butler

Born in Colorado; educated at Iowa Wesleyan and State College of Iowa. A leading Hollywood cinematographer of the 70s and 80s. He also worked in TV, winning an Emmy for the TV movie "Raid on Entebbe" (1977). (Not to be confused with the British film editor of the same name whose credits include A CLOCKWORK ORANGE.)

He began as a camera operator on UPA's animated feature 1001 ARABIAN NIGHTS (1959) and was then cinematographer on FEARLESS FRANK (1967). He directed 2nd unit photography for THE GODFATHER and DELIVERANCE (both 1972). Other cinematography credits include THE RAIN PEOPLE (1969), the TV movie "The Execution of Private Slovik" (1974), JAWS (1975), THE BINGO LONG TRAVELING ALL-STARS & MOTOR KINGS and LIPSTICK (both 1976), DEMON SEED (1977), DAMIEN: OMEN II, GREASE, CAPRICORN ONE and ICE CASTLES (all 1978), ROCKY II (1979), CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC and IT'S MY TURN (both 1980), ROCKY III and THE SECRET OF NIMH (both 1982), THE STING II (1983), BILOXI BLUES, CHILD'S PLAY and WILDFIRE (all 1988), HOT SHOTS! (1991), SNIPER, COP & 1/2 and BEETHOVEN'S 2ND (all 1993), ANACONDA and the cable TV movie "Don King: Only in America" (both 1997), ROPEWALK (2000), FRAILTY (2001), BERSERKER (2005), ZOMBIE PROM, FUNNY MONEY and THE PLAGUE (all 2006), and REDLINE and EVIL ANGEL (both 2007).
