Dyan Cannon
(1937 -     )
Biography from Baseline's Encyclopedia of Film

Born Samille Diane Friesen in Tacoma, WA; educated in anthropology at the University of Washington. Sexy, zany and spirited blonde who, after some TV work and minor features, sparkled as a deft comedienne in several trendy films of the 1970s and 80s. Cannon had a stormy marriage (1965-68) to actor Cary Grant, 35 years her senior. In 1976 she directed, wrote, produced, edited and scored the AFI sponsored, Oscar®-nominated live-action short, GROWING PAINS: NUMBER ONE about children's natural curiosity about their bodies and the adult values that stifle them. She subsequently wrote and directed her only feature film, the semi-autobiographical THE END OF INNOCENCE (1991).

Other notable (non-nominated) credits include THE LAST OF SHEILA (1973), REVENGE OF THE PINK PANTHER (1978), HONEYSUCKLE ROSE and COAST TO COAST (both 1980), DEATHTRAP and AUTHOR! AUTHOR! (both 1982), CADDYSHACK II (1988), THE PICKLE (1993), ALLIE & ME, THAT DARN CAT, 8 HEADS IN A DUFFLE BAG, THE SENDER and OUT TO SEA (all 1998), and KISS OF A STRANGER (1999). She has made many made-for-TV movies and guest appearances on TV series and mini-series. She played Judge Jennifer "Whipper" Cone on "Ally McBeal" (1997-2000). Recent screen credits include KANGAROO JACK (2003) and THE BOYNTON BEACH BEREAVEMENT CLUB (2005).

Her daughter with Cary Grant is actress Jennifer Grant (b. 1966). Cannon married producer Stanley Fimberg in 1985; they divorced in 1991.
