Emmy and Peabody award-winning writer/producer for CBS News in the 1970s. HEARTS AND MINDS (1974) was his first venture into feature documentary filmmaking. It was followed by FAMILY BUSINESS (1978), RISE AND FALL OF THE BORSCHT BELT and WINNIE AND NELSON MANDELA (both 1986), and IN DARKEST HOLLYWOOD: CINEMA AND APARTHEID (1993). He wrote the story for the 1980 TV movie "Haywire," and he shot two made-for-TV features: "Harold Lloyd: The Third Genius" (1989) and "Neglect Not the Children" (1991).
Married Herman J. Mankiewicz's daughter; father of TV producer/director Nick Davis.
