Born Donald Lee Feld in Los Angeles. Attended Chouinard Art Institute before being hired as art director in 1953 by Capitol Records. After several years at Capitol he went out on his own, and soon found steady employment in the film industry as a costume designer, beginning with RETURN TO PEYTON PLACE (1961). Other notable (non-nominated) credits include THE SECOND TIME AROUND and BACHELOR FLAT (both 1961), STATE FAIR and MR. HOBBS TAKES A VACATION (both 1962), UNDER THE YUM YUM TREE (1963), VIVA LAS VEGAS, ROBIN AND THE 7 HOODS, DEAD RINGER and DEAR HEART (all 1964), THE GREAT RACE and THE CINCINNATI KID (both 1965), THE CHASE (1966), HOMBRE, DOUBLE TROUBLE, DON'T MAKE WAVES and LUV (all 1967), DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER (1971), WHO IS KILLING THE GREAT CHEFS OF EUROPE? and WHO'LL STOP THE RAIN (both 1978), THE CHINA SYNDROME (1979), BRAINSTORM (1983), SPACEBALLS (1987), NEXT OF KIN (1989), GLADIATOR (1992), and FATHER HOOD (1993).
