American documentary filmmaker and producer whose producing credits include the PBS mini-series about the American Civil Rights movement from 1952 to 1965, "Eyes on the Prize" (1987) and "Cadillac Desert," a 1997 PBS mini-series about the transformation of the American Southwest in the 20TH century from desert into oasis. He has worked on some other documentaries and features as assistant camera: THE ATOMIC CAFE (1982, additional archival researcher), THE TIMES OF HARVEY MILK (1984), TOP GUN (1986) and CRUMB (1994). He directed SING FASTER: THE STAGEHANDS' RING CYCLE (1999), which won an Emmy® in 2000 for outstanding informational or cultural programming. Else's work as cinematographer includes OFF THE WALL (1977), RUST NEVER SLEEPS (1979), CARDIAC ARREST and CAN'T IT BE ANYONE ELSE (both 1980), BIRD BY BIRD WITH ANNIE (1999), THEY DREW FIRE: COMBAT ARTISTS OF WORLD WAR II (2000), TUPAC: RESURRECTION (2003), and WONDERS ARE MANY (2007, also director).
