Born in Sweden. Founder and editor of Swedish film magazine Chaplin (1959-1965). Launched a trio of art films in 1963, called Smultronstället (alias "Wild Strawberries"). Executive producer at SF, Svensk Filmindustri (15 features, 1965-1972). Executive producer at the Swedish Film Institute (20 features, 1972-1980). Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Stockholm in 1980, wrote a dissertation on Victor Sjöstrom, his life and work. Artistic director at the Swedish Film Institute 1982-1990, head of Nordic Film and Television Fund 1990-1995, Filmcommissioner at the Swedish Film Institute 1995-1997. Bengt Forslund has been a Member of the Swedish Film Academy since 1965, also a member of the Board of European Film Awards (1987-1992) and a Member of European Film Academy since the beginning of 1992.
He has produced films by Jan Troell, George Tirl and Lasse Hallström that have won many awards around the world - Gold Hugo at the Chicago Film Festival, Gold Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, two Golden Globes and several Oscar® nominations. Forslund retired from the film business after co-producing Henning Carlsen's police drama PAN / TWO GREEN FEATHERS (1995). |
