Started as an uncredited sound man on "The Monkees" TV series in 1966. Moved into features when their producer pushed the Monkees onto the big screen with HEAD (1968) (Written by Jack Nicholson, Bob Rafelson and the Monkees themselves, it featured a veritable "Who's Who" of the contemporary psychedelic scene: Frank Zappa, Dennis Hopper, Carol Doda, Terri Garr, Victor Mature... you name it! Raybert Productions, headed by Rafelson and Bert Schneider -- son of Abe, who was top dog at Columbia -- also produced two other early Nicholson vehicles: EASY RIDER and FIVE EASY PIECES. Then they added Steve Blauner, became BBS and backed Peter Bogdanovich's THE LAST PICTURE SHOW. But I digress...)
Back to Les Fresholtz! With 75 features to his credit, it's hard to pick out the highlights. He left the boom behind and became sound mixer in 1973, and then sound re-recordist in 1974. He became Clint Eastwood's sound re-recording mixer of choice; Fresholtz worked for Eastwood 11 times -- for his action films as well as his more dramatic ventures. Fresholtz was sound re-recording mixer for the original STAR WARS (1977) and GHOSTBUSTERS (1984). His last picture was released in 1996, the Kurt Russell - Steven Sagal action adventure thriller, EXECUTIVE DECISION. From the late 1960s until the early 1990s, Les Fresholtz was consistently good enough to be honored by his peers with an Oscar® nomination for Sound in just about every other year.
