Born in The Bronx, NY. Member of the SAC (Social Athletic Club) known as the Barracudas as a teenager growing up in The Bronx. Would later be introduced to director Stanley Kubrick by mutual friend Alexander Singer. Prolific composer for television and film whose credits include: (film) scores for THE KILLING (1956), PATHS OF GLORY (1957), THE SECOND TIME AROUND (1961), ONE POTATO, TWO POTATO (1964), DEATHWATCH (1966), THE KILLING OF SISTER GEORGE (1968), WHATEVER HAPPENED TO AUNT ALICE? (1969), THE BELL JAR (1979), STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE (1979, some scenes, uncredited), OUTLAND (1981, one scene, uncredited). Since 1979, Fried composed almost exclusively for television: "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," "Gilligan's Island," "Mission: Impossible," "Police Woman," "Roots" (mini-series), "Roots: The Next Generations," "The Chisholms," "Dynasty", et al.
