Penelope Gilliatt
(1932 - 1993)

Born in London, England. A well-known film critic, notably for The Observer (London) and The New Yorker magazine. A profile of novelist Graham Greene which she wrote for The New Yorker so incensed its subject that he demanded (and received) an apology, a very rare thing in that magazine's history. She was divorced from playwright John Osborne. Also a well-known novelist and short story writer, her teleplay "The Flight Fund" was broadcast on the BBC in 1975.

Nominated for Writing (Best Story and Screenplay Based on Factual Material or Material Not Previously Published or Produced) 1971: SUNDAY, BLOODY SUNDAY
