He started out in television, editing such TV series as "Thriller" and "McHale's Navy" in the early 1960s, before cutting his first feature, THAT COLD DAY IN THE PARK (1969). Other notable editing credits include M*A*S*H and MYRA BRECKINRIDGE (both 1970), CLAY PIGEON (1971), DEADHEAD MILES (1972), BLAZING SADDLES (1974), ALOHA, BOBBY AND ROSE and THE KILLER INSIDE ME (both 1976), FUN WITH DICK AND JANE and WHICH WAY IS UP? (both 1977), AMERICAN HOT WAX (supervising editor), ROCKY II (supervising editor), VOICES (all 1979), HISTORY OF THE WORLD, PART I (1981, add'l editor), PARTNERS (1982), HEAD OFFICE (1985), WILDFIRE, 18 AGAIN! and LOVE AT STAKE (all 1988), HOW'S HARRY CRUMB? (1989), VITAL SIGNS (1990), and his last film, THERE GOES MY BABY (1994).
Greene directed one feature film, THE SECRET DIARY OF SIGMUND FREUD (1984), which starred Carol Kane, Klaus Kinski, Marisa Berenson, Carroll Baker and Dick Shawn.
