Jerome Hellman

Born in New York City; educated at NYU. After a spell in the New York Times advertising department, he became an agent, eventually listing among his clients such movie directors as John Frankenheimer, George Roy Hill, Sidney Lumet, and Franklin Schaffner. Having gained some experience as a TV producer, he moved into feature films in the mid-1960s. His films have been few but distinguished, including the Oscar®-winning MIDNIGHT COWBOY. He took a sole stab at directing in 1979 (PROMISES IN THE DARK, also producer). Other producing credits include THE WORLD OF HENRY ORIENT (1964), A FINE MADNESS (1966), THE DAY OF THE LOCUST (1975), COMING HOME (1978), and his last film, THE MOSQUITO COAST (1986). He produced the 1989 Broadway version of 3 Penny Opera, which starred Sting as Macheath.
