Born in Kansas City, MO. Working with his partner Fred Ebb, he provided songs for a number of films: CABARET (1972), NORMAN ROCKWELL'S WORLD: AN AMERICAN DREAM (1972), LUCKY LADY (1975), A MATTER OF TIME (1976), NEW YORK, NEW YORK (1977), STEPPING OUT (1991), and CHICAGO (2002). They provided songs for several Liza Minnelli TV specials.
His other notable composing credits include KRAMER VS. KRAMER (1979, adaptation), STILL OF THE NIGHT (1982) and PLACES IN THE HEART (1984). From 1967, the songwriting team were nominated for 11 Tony® Awards, winning four times -- 2 awards for Cabaret (1967), for Woman of the Year (1981), and for Kiss of the Spider Woman - The Musical in a tie in 1993. Kander and Ebb were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1983.
