Bob Merrill
(1921 - 1998)

Born H. Robert Merrill Levan in Atlantic City, NJ. Composer and/or lyricist whose Broadway shows include New Girl In Town (1957), Take Me Along (1959), Carnival (1961), Funny Girl (music by Jules Styne) - lyrics (1964), Henry, Sweet Henry (1967), Sugar (music by Jules Styne) - lyrics - 1972 revived as Some Like It Hot (1992) and The Red Shoes (1993). The composer of such popular hits as "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?", he shared a 1964 Grammy® with Styne for the cast album of Funny Girl. After a long illness, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 1998.
