Born in Los Angeles. Juvenile star of the 1970s, best remembered for her Oscar-winning performance opposite her father, Ryan O'Neal, in PAPER MOON (1973), becoming the youngest performer to win a competitive Academy Award at age 10, and as the headstrong little-league pitching ace in THE BAD NEWS BEARS (1976).

Other notable credits include NICKELODEON (1976), INTERNATIONAL VELVET (1978), LITTLE DARLINGS (1980) BASQUIAT (1996), THE SCOUNDREL'S WIFE and THE TECHNICAL WRITER (both 2002) and MY BROTHER (2006). She has appeared on television since the late 1980s.

Her mother was her father's first wife (1963-1966), Joanna Moore. O'Neal married tennis star John McEnroe in 1986; they divorced in 1994; 3 children. McEnroe won custody of their daughter Emily after a long court battle.
