His teleplay "The World of Shalom Aleichem" (1959) provided the basis for the Broadway mega-hit Fiddler on the Roof (1964). He wrote for television ("The Nurses," "East Side/West Side" and "Espionage") and collaborated on the screenplay for COTTON COMES TO HARLEM (1970).
