Valerie Perrine
(1943 -     )
Biography from Katz's Film Encyclopedia

Born in Galveston, TX. Tall, sexy, uninhibited leading lady of Hollywood films of the 70s. The daughter of a career military officer and a former showgirl, she grew up as an army brat and spent part of her childhood in Japan and other overseas posts. She briefly attended the universities of Arizona and Nevada, intending to become a psychologist but soon quit her studies to become a Las Vegas topless showgirl. After an interim period of soul searching, experimentation with drugs, and a hippie hand-to-mouth existence in Europe, she settled in Hollywood, living for a while on unemployment compensation and welfare. She finally broke into films in 1972, playing the role of Montana Wildhack, an outer space sex siren in George Roy Hill's SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE. Other screen roles quickly followed. She was nominated for an Academy Award as best actress for her convincing performance as Honey, Lenny Bruce's stripper-junkie wife, in LENNY (1974).

Other notable credits include W.C. FIELDS AND ME (1976), SUPERMAN (1978), THE ELECTRIC HORSEMAN (1979), SUPERMAN II (1980), THE CANNONBALL RUN (1981), THE BORDER (1982), WHAT WOMEN WANT (2000), DIRECTING EDDIE (2001), THE END OF THE BAR (2002), and THE CALIFORNIANS (2005).

She has worked extensively in television as a guest star in TV series and made-for-TV movies, and she now has her own production company and web site: www.valerieperrine.com.
