Sounder (1972)
Born in Great Neck, Long Island, NY. Best known for producing high-quality family films. After graduating from the University of Virginia in 1947 (with classmate Samuel Goldwyn, Jr.), he taught college and penned scripts for short RKO films. He later became a Broadway stage manager, then producer (The Young and the Beautiful, 1955) -- until the 1960s when he began producing Hollywood feature films. Other producing credits include A DOG OF FLANDERS (1959), FOR THE LOVE OF MIKE (a.k.a. "None But the Brave") (1960), MISTY (1961), ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHINS (1964), AND NOW MIGUEL (1966), MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN (1969), THE LITTLE ARK (1972), WHERE THE LILIES BLOOM (1974), "Mary White" (1977, TV), BIRCH INTERVAL (1977), CROSS CREEK (1983), "Never Forget" (1991, TV) and A HERO AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT A SANDWICH (1991).
